Wright scored 42 points as South Gate won two Southeastern Conference games. He scored 27 in an 89-52 win over Bell and added 15 as the Rams defeated Fremont, the 12th-ranked team in The Times’ prep poll, 63-58, in overtime. South Gate is 18-3.
Other top prep performers:
James Cotton, a St. John Bosco forward, scored 50 points in a pair of Del Rey League basketball games. He scored 26 in a 85-68 win over St. Anthony and added 24 in a 91-49 rout of St. Paul. Bosco’s league record is 8-1.
Rick Price, a St. Anthony guard, scored 33 points in an 85-68 loss to Del Rey League opponent St. John Bosco, and then scored 36 points in a 55-51 win over St. Francis.
