El Monte : City OKs Bus Pass Plan
The city last week agreed to subsidize a new joint Foothill Transit/RTD bus pass for senior citizens and the handicapped.
The passes will cost $7, instead of the current $12 for senior citizens and $8 for the handicapped. The passes will be sold by the Department of Parks and Recreation in El Monte.
In other news, the city plans to expand its paramedic service.
Six more firefighters will be trained and certified as paramedics, for a total of nine. The additions are expected to result in a 90% to 95% response rate to emergency medical calls versus the current 70% that can be handled by El Monte’s one paramedic unit.
In January, the City Council approved a reciprocal agreement with Arcadia in which that city would provide a backup paramedic unit in return for El Monte’s response to fire calls in part of Arcadia.
