COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Ricabal Completes His Work as Titans Defeat Texas

Dan Ricabal pitched his second consecutive complete game to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 7-5 nonconference baseball victory over Texas on Saturday in front of 6,702 at Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Tex.
Ricabal, who allowed six hits and four walks, struck out six for the sixth-ranked Titans (3-2).
Jeff Ferguson hit a bases-loaded triple to highlight the Titans’ four-run sixth inning and teammate Jim Betszold had three hits and two runs scored. The Titans’ Kyle Evans, a former Katella High standout, hit an RBI double.
All-American Brooks Kieschnick, the scheduled starting pitcher for today’s game, hit a two-run home run for the fifth-ranked Longhorns (6-2).
In other nonconference games:
Southern California College 7-4, UC San Diego 8-2--Al Contrera had five hits with two doubles and a home run for SCC (2-3) in the doubleheader split.
UCLA 10, Chapman 4--Adam Melhuse hit a grand slam to highlight a 10-run third inning for the Bruins. Melhuse had six RBIs for 17th-ranked UCLA. Jed Shafer had two hits and an RBI for Chapman. Buster Nietzke and Ben Mendoza each had two hits for the Panthers.
In nonconference baseball:
Cal Lutheran 11, Christ College Irvine 3--CCI starting pitcher Mike Crumrine, who lost for the first time this season, had two hits and T.J. Wilcoxson hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s swimming:
UC Santa Barbara 178, UC Irvine 99--Irvine’s Patrick Keenan won the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
