In the story “Anyone Can Buy ‘Group’ Discounts for Cruises” (Jan. 10), cruise line officials admit they overbook frequently and reserve the right to withdraw cabins sold at discount from brochure rates. They say 75% of all bookings are in this category. The story also stated that the cruise lines can sell the entire ship to a group after they have sold hundreds of tickets to individuals who have paid for a trip months in advance. I would like to know what the cruise lines provide in exchange for the deposits, and then the full payment demanded months in advance of embarkation.
