Sears Recalls Dishwashers: Sears, Roebuck & Co. announced that it is recalling 400,000 Kenmore dishwashers sold in the last three years, and it is warning owners to immediately stop using them because they could experience a timer failure that could result in fire. Sears warned that 21 models of its popular Kenmore dishwasher could pose a hazard and advised people who bought the machines to call immediately for free service. About 30 of 400,000 units sold have had timer failures and four have caught fire, resulting in smoke damage to kitchens. Sears has begun sending letters to more than 300,000 customers. Consumers seeking free service can call Sears toll free at (800) 998-8470.
