Writers Set CBS Strike Deadline: The Writers Guild of America said it set a deadline of March 1 to strike CBS Inc. if the two parties cannot agree on a new contract. Writers Guild members in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington voted Feb. 11 to leave their posts at midnight that day, when their three-year agreement, representing 275 workers, ends with CBS. Employees set to walk the picket line include news writers, editors, researchers and desk assistants who work for the CBS network, as well as its radio operations. Some of the news writers also serve as producers. On-air staff is not included.
