PALMDALE : Shoplifters Fight Off Security Guard

Three women walked out of a Palmdale department store with merchandise and then fought off a security guard by biting him and attacking him with clothes hangers, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The incident began about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when the women fled Gottchalks at 1123 W. Ave. P with merchandise, Sgt. Bob Denham said.
Security guard James Cookson, 26, of Palmdale chased the women to their car. After they started the car, the guard fell against the vehicle when it swerved, Denham said. But Cookson managed to shut off the ignition switch. The women then threw the merchandise--$840 worth of clothing--into the street, restarted the car and fled.
In the scuffle, Cookson was bitten on the arm and scratched with a coat hanger. Deputies did not release a description of the car.
