Cellular Phone Firms Form Alliance: Fifteen leading cellular telephone companies announced that they have linked their services in a nationwide network to provide consistent, easy-to-use mobile phone services for travelers. Called MobiLink, the new network will offer standardized dialing codes, 24-hour customer service representatives and 375 service centers throughout the United States and Canada. The new network will serve about 83% of those two countries. MobiLink will be a direct competitor to the North American Cellular Network formed nearly two years ago by McCaw Cellular, which joined its Cellular One operations under a single service umbrella.
