American, Delta to Match America West Fare Cuts: American Airlines and Delta Air Lines said they will match America West Airlines’ new fare cuts, which reduce the cost for leisure travel by up to 30%. “We are responding to those in competitive markets,” said a Delta spokesman, who added that the move mainly involves an extension of Delta’s discounts. Most of the competitive markets were in the West. Tempe, Ariz.-based America West announced the cuts, saying they apply to flights through June 10. The non-refundable fares require 14-day advance purchase, must be bought by March 10 and also require a Saturday-night stay.
