Slavkin Not Consistent

As The Times points out (“Educators Dominate Field Trying to Oust Pair,” Times Valley Edition Feb. 14), District 4 of the Los Angeles Unified School District “stretches from Westchester . . . near Los Angeles International Airport to Porter Ranch in the northwest corner of the San Fernando Valley and includes three area codes.”
Board member Mark Slavkin is quoted as saying: “The size of my district is proof that we need to decentralize the school district.”
This statement obscures the fact that Slavkin supported last year’s tripling of the size of his old West Los Angeles district to create District 4.
I, and many others on both sides of the mountains, would like to know why he supported the change he now bemoans.
