Decline in Education

After 40 years as an English and math teacher, I retired in 1983. Until last year, I tutored students from UCLA, Cal State Long Beach and Jordan and Wilson high schools, Long Beach.
I’ve never ceased to be amazed at my “4.0” students, who could not solve simple computational math problems, nor write acceptable English compositions. After auditing 19 teachers over the past 10 years, I’ve concluded that 17 cannot teach, in spite of their impressive credentials. But more opprobrious, however, is their unconscionable practice in giving poor students high grades, thereby compounding the decline in educational excellence.
