LOS ANGELES : Transit Building Plan Attacked as Wasteful
- Share via
An Rapid Transit District board member Thursday called for a grand jury investigation into a proposal to spend $110 million on a new transit agency building, and what she suggested was a $2-million political payoff attempt.
Rolling Hills Mayor Gordana Swanson told her board colleagues she believes county transportation commissioners are engaged in a “gross waste of taxpayer dollars” in agreeing to start talks with a contractor over a $110-million headquarters for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
She also called for an inquiry into allegations that Los Angeles County Transportation Commission staffers offered RTD transit police $2 million in future benefits if they would drop out of the bidding to provide Red Line security.
Los Angeles police were trying to get that contract, but it went to the RTD officers, who submitted a lower bid.
