When Pam Sommers asked Peter Kuper to contribute to her book, Kuper went blank. Sommers wanted recipes. For anything, from salsa to satire. “Most of my graphics are political,” Kuper says. “I couldn’t find anything to do.” Then L.A. set itself on fire, and Kuper, a New Yorker, began to draw. His is one of the 85 works in “Recipes for Disaster: Dinner at the Illustration Gallery,” due in April from Chronicle Books.
