Artists’ Garden: Artists James Turrell and Robert Irwin are talking to architect Richard Meier about creating artworks for the central garden of the Getty Center in Brentwood, which is targeted for completion in 1996. “We want the garden to be something that is more than a restful, pretty place--something that is aesthetically challenging and rewarding, and worth a visit in and of itself,” said Stephen D. Rountree, director of the Getty’s building program. The idea is not a traditional sculpture garden, but a collaboration with Meier that will function as an integral part of the architect’s design, he said.
