Greyhound, Drivers Reach Tentative Accord: Greyhound Lines Inc. and its drivers tentatively agreed to end a bitter three-year strike against the nation’s only intercity bus company. The proposed six-year agreement calls for regular labor-management meetings. It provides about $22 million in striker back pay and annual wage increases that will boost driver pay nearly 20% over the life of the contract, from $13.83 an hour now to $16.55 an hour on March 1, 1998. Greyhound agreed to rehire about 550 strikers by July 1. The 5,800 drivers and maintenance workers are represented by the Amalgamated Council of Greyhound Local Unions.
