OPEN THE GATES: The county’s budget crisis is closing in on inmates at the Peter J. Pitchess jail in Castaic. This is good news for some people, not so good for others. . . . Sheriff Sherman Block (B1) says he is considering closing four jails, including some Pitchess facilities, to save money. . . . If he does, he’d have to release 5,000 of the county’s 21,000 inmates.
