USC’s Jeff Laynes won the men’s 100- and 200-meter dashes and anchored winning teams in the 400- and 1,600-meter relays in the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Meet at UCLA.
Laynes clocked 10.32 seconds in the 100 and 20.76 in the 200. UCLA was the men’s winner in both triangular (with Arizona and USC) and dual-meet scoring (against USC).
USC’s Inger Miller won the women’s 100 in 11.18 seconds, a meet record. UCLA won the women’s meet in both triangular and dual-meet scoring behind Dawn Dumble’s victories in the shotput and discus.
In the high school portion of the meet, Morningside girls’ teams won the 400- and 1,600-meter relays and the Morningside men were second in each.
