The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team has signed Emily Shopper from Olathe North High of Olathe, Kan., to a national letter of intent.
Shopper, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 14.2 points and 10.6 rebounds as a senior. She was the senior player of the year in her district.
She joins 5-9 guard Latisha Beam of Palmdale, who signed with the Lions last week. Beam, an All-Southern Section Division I first-team selection, averaged 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds as a senior.
The Lions signed 5-8 guard Amber Magner, an all-state player from Palmer High in Alaska, in November, and have also added Cal State Fullerton transfer point guard Lianne Ishikawa.
Ishikawa, a former standout at Buena High in Ventura who was an All-Southern Section Division I second-team selection in 1991, must sit out the first four games of next season to comply with NCAA transfer rules.
In 1992-93, the Lions were 14-12, their best record since the 1988-89 season, but were last in the West Coast Conference at 5-9.
The Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s team has signed two players.
April Sprayberry, a 6-2 center from Strathmore High in Central California, and 5-11 guard-forward Jenny Bates from Ridgecrest Burroughs will join the squad in the fall.
Sprayberry, an All-Central Section selection, averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds last season. Bates, an All-Southern Section Division III first-team selection and Golden League most valuable player last season, averaged 19 points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Toros will also add three prep players who sat out last season because they did not meet NCAA Proposition 48 requirements: 6-0 centers Shari Needham of Tustin and Treymane Parker of Pasadena and 5-7 point guard Jylinda Medley of Long Beach Millikan. Needham was a second-team All-Southern Section Division II choice as a senior at Tustin.
Dominguez Hills, which will return two starters, including All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. guard Karee Bonde, was 16-10 last season and finished third in the conference.
