Koresh and Waco Tragedy

In her column about the Waco tragedy, Mary Zeiss Stange (“The ‘Crazy’ Label Was Lethal” Commentary, April 21) seems to feel that a “religious” issue was at stake, and that the FBI action was a blow against First Amendment freedoms for or against religion.
I take issue with her, in that I believe it was a “legal” issue; if in fact enough weight in their request brought forth a search warrant, and the ATF was unable to serve that warrant without the murder of four of its agents, the criminality of that act alone should be punished in a speedy manner.
That children were victims of David Koresh’s craziness is indeed the tragedy--not that someone’s religious rights were being trampled.
