Regarding “Back When Jocks Were Boss,” by Claudia Puig (April 25):
The mid-’60s were an incredible time for teen radio fans:
* Beatles concert tickets cost $7, and my best Beatle friend and I won a pair from KRLA.
* Dave Hull actually knew the Beatles and had his own fan club. (Theme song: “The sunny, funny, fuzzy, scuzzy Hullabalooer. . . .”
* It was safe to take the bus from Redondo Beach to Pasadena to visit our favorite deejays at the station, then hang around Hollywood looking for “longhairs.”
* Then-deejay Bob Eubanks kissed my 11-year-old sister on the cheek and wasn’t afraid to eat the home-baked cookies we brought him.
* We “Teen Topper Representatives” polled our classmates and were interviewed on the air about our school’s favorite songs.
* Dick Biondi (“Biondi Blue Horizon”) broadcast phone conversations consisting of:
Me: “Beatles rule!”
Biondi: “Stones rule!”
Me: “Beatles rule!”
Biondi: “Stones rule!”
Well, those were the most important concerns of our lives!
It was a time of innocence and exhilaration, and I thank the radio personalities for making it all possible. Keep the faith!
