In Tuesday’s matches:
Garfield d. Verdugo Hills, 15-8, 15-11, 15-11--Victor Ramirez had nine kills and 16 assists to lead host Garfield to a first-round victory over Verdugo Hills.
In the third game, Garfield (12-2) overcame a 9-5 lead by Verdugo Hills and tied the score at 11 following a net violation. Jose Rocha had a kill to end the third game and the match.
