‘Snide Sexism’ of Wieder’s Colleagues

I have friends and relatives who reside in Orange County and I cannot imagine that they and their neighbors would approve of the snide sexism mouthed by Supervisor (Harriett) Wieder’s political colleagues (“Wieder Raising Eyebrows, Ire as O.C. Board Chairman,” March 25). “She should work to regain control over her emotions”? She is “a lot of fun at a party”? Maybe some folks can’t deal with a woman who has power and knows how to use it for the benefit of the public, not the insiders.
Those of us around California who have worked with Harriett Wieder know that she is someone who speaks her mind and cuts through the baloney that too often accompanies political dialogue. She is someone who always puts partisanship aside so that she can pursue what’s important for her constituents, instead of political agendas.
California voters showed that they are comfortable with women in elected office when they sent two to the United States Senate last November.
It’s time for some of the men who hold public office to take the hint from their own voters--cut the patronizing sexism and get down to business.
