GOING FOR ‘BROKERESE’
I don’t know from where or whom Jill Stewart (no relation) got her information about real estate “brokerese” (L.A. Speak, Palm Latitudes, April 4). I take particular exception to the notion that there are such things as “garbage fees” charged by escrow officers--especially the cost of messengers. That charge is, more accurately, a reimbursement to the escrow company for funds it advanced prior to the close of escrow.
The term garbage fee was invented by the first cheapskate who demanded first-class service but was too sleazy to pay for it.
