A HAND UP: College kids and street toughs don’t have a lot of common ground. . . . But students from Pierce College in Woodland Hills and other schools have forged a bond with troubled youths through a program sponsored by the Los Angeles County Probation Department. About 70 college students help out at the department’s Camp Kilpatrick in Malibu, providing tutoring and friendship (B1).
