Baltimore Oriole first baseman Glenn Davis underwent surgery Monday for a broken jaw suffered while breaking up a fist fight in Norfolk, Va.
Davis, who accepted assignment to triple-A Rochester on May 27, sustained the injury Sunday night when he came to the defense of teammate Randy Ready outside a bar, Oriole General Manager Roland Hemond said.
Davis’ status for the remainder of the season won’t be known until later this week, Baltimore Manager Johnny Oates said.

Contrary to first word from the Seattle Mariners, pitcher Chris Bosio did not refracture his left collarbone during a brawl in Baltimore.
Bosio, who was examined by a team doctor Monday, is experiencing some “localized inflammation” after Sunday’s fight. But he is expected to begin throwing in one week and start pitching again in two to three weeks, the Mariners said.
Seattle Manager Lou Piniella said Sunday that Bosio had rebroken his collarbone.
