REGIONAL ROUNDUP : Gutierrez Guides Aztecs, 30-3

Tim Gutierrez threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, including a 59-yarder to Keith Williams on the game’s second play, and San Diego State beat Colorado State, 30-3, Saturday night at San Diego.
Peter Holt kicked three field goals, and Marshall Faulk rushed 18 times for 89 yards and caught five passes for 48 yards for the Aztecs, 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. It was the fourth time this season that Faulk, the two-time national rushing leader, was held to less than 100 yards on the ground.
The Rams (2-5, 2-2) lost for the sixth consecutive time at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.
Gutierrez completed 21 of 31 passes, with one interception. It was his third 300-yard game in four starts since replacing the injured David Lowery.

Receiver Charlie Jones scored on a 29-yard reverse and caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from receiver David Dunn on a fake-reverse as Fresno State (4-2, 2-1) defeated Air Force, 33-20, in a WAC game at Ft. Collins, Colo. Quarterback Demond Cash ran 28 times for 162 yards for the Falcons (1-6, 0-5). Ron Rivers ran for 135 yards for the Bulldogs and Trent Dilfer completed 11 of 16 passes for 166 yards. . . . Tailback Keith Williams scored two touchdowns as Utah (3-4, 1-2) recorded a 45-29 WAC victory over Texas El Paso (1-5, 0-3) at El Paso.
EAST
No. 24 Syracuse 24, Pittsburgh 21--The Orangemen barely beat the Panthers, a 22 1/2-point underdog, at Pittsburgh as Marvin Graves threw two touchdowns passes to Marvin Harrison and Syracuse stopped Pitt on a potential game-winning fourth-down play with 2:24 remaining.
Pitt went for the victory on fourth and two at the Syracuse three after driving 77 yards. But Curtis Martin, who ran for 206 yards and a touchdown, ran into his own blocker and was stopped.
Syracuse, 4-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big East, then ran out the clock to beat Pitt (1-5, 0-2) for the fourth straight time.

Terrell Willis ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns in 37 carries and cornerback Michael Roberts returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown as Rutgers (4-2) recorded a 45-38 victory over Army (4-2) at West Point, N.Y. . . . Freshman Robert Green returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes, sending Navy (4-2) on its way to a 31-3 victory over Division I-AA Colgate (2-4) at Annapolis, Md.
WEST
Chris Vargas passed for 518 yards and four touchdowns for Nevada (4-2, 1-1 Big West) in a 48-44 victory over Utah State (1-5, 1-1) at Logan, Utah. Michael Stephens’ winning eight-yard touchdown reception came with 36 seconds left. . . . Quarterback Jeff Garcia threw for four touchdowns to lead San Jose State (1-5, 1-0) to a 52-13 Big West victory over New Mexico State (3-3, 2-1) at Las Cruces, N.M. The Spartans took advantage of seven turnovers.
SOUTHLAND
Davin Lundquist passed to his brother Erik for an 85-yard touchdown pass play as Occidental, 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 51-21, at Pomona. Charles Jordon had a 90-yard for Oxy. Pomona-Pitzer fell to 1-4, 0-3. . . . George Marquecho had five receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Whittier (2-4, 2-2) to a 28-21 victory over Redlands (4-1, 2-1) in an SCIAC game at Redlands. . . . Kedar Ellis scored on a one-yard run with 5:33 remaining and then caught a pass from Ryan Ferguson for the two-point conversion as Menlo College (0-5-1) earned a 34-34 tie with Claremont-Mudd (0-3-1) at Atherton. Claremont’s John Shipp completed 18 of 35 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns to help the Stags end a 22-game losing streak.
