Southland Fires

It has been proven that shake roofs are a true fire hazard. The homes most at risk are those on or near hills. The losses incurred by the homeowners and the government after the homes have been destroyed by fire are staggering.
Wouldn’t it make sense for the government to grant financial assistance to those homeowners at risk who are willing to re-roof their homes with fireproof materials? How many lives and how much money and suffering could be spared!

* Isn’t it a bizarre twist of fate that the toll road in Laguna Canyon could have saved much of the canyon and Laguna Beach? The “despised” toll road would have protected and preserved the Laguna Canyon that environmentalists have repeatedly tried to “save” over the past decade.
The completed toll road would have provided a massive firebreak and access for effective firefighting in the relatively inaccessible terrain.
