Live Entertainment Reports Sharp Sales Drop in Quarter

Live Entertainment Inc., a Van Nuys distributor and retailer of videocassettes, reported a third-quarter loss on a sharp drop in sales.
The company attributed the poor results in the quarter that ended Sept. 30 to a decrease in sales at its Live Home Video unit. It also said it is being hurt by economic troubles in Germany, which has slowed sales at its German distribution subsidiary.
Live’s third-quarter loss was $3.28 million, while sales fell 25% to $68.7 million. A year earlier, Live earned $1.08 million on $91.2 million in sales.
For the nine months, Live narrowed its losses to $5.55 million from a $13.6-million loss in the comparable period in 1992. Its revenue was down 4%, to $193.2 million from $201.8 million.
