Droughns, the county’s regular-season rushing leader with 1,663 yards, further separated himself from the pack Friday by gaining 361 yards and scoring four touchdowns in 26 carries in a 34-32 victory over El Monte Arroyo. It was the second-best rushing performance in county history, behind Dana Hills’ Jim Gleed, who rushed for 418 in 1979 against Laguna Hills. Droughns scored on runs of 66, 74, 21 and 75 yards and rushed for 63 of 67 yards on the final drive, which was capped by Joel Vasquez’s 23-yard field goal.
Other notables:
* Drew Douglass, Los Amigos, scored 19 of the Lobos’ 23 goals in Division IV water polo victories over Ojai Nordhoff and La Verne Bonita.
* Mike Moreno, Katella, won the Southern Section Division II-A cross-country race, finishing in 15:24 to lead the Knights to the team title.
* Grant Pearsall, Villa Park, rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns and returned an interception for a score in a 30-28 victory over Corona del Mar.
* Allen Vaughan, San Clemente, rushed for 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 45-21 Division I victory over third-seeded Quartz Hill.
