Cross-Country
The week leading up to Saturday’s State cross-country final was an agonizing one for Medina and the Irvine Valley team. She injured a thigh muscle in the Orange Empire Conference final Nov. 9 and was uncertain if it would hold up. She had taken a few days off from running to do light workouts in an effort to rest. “We weren’t sure if she was going to be able finish the race,” Coach Bill Leach said. Medina not only held together but ran a strong race, finishing 11th and leading the Lasers to the title.
* Andrea Bill and Yumi Yamazaki of Saddleback each had 27 kills as Saddleback won two Orange Empire Conference volleyball matches.
* Adrienne Sweetser of Orange Coast was seventh overall and Orange Coast was second at the State cross-country final.
