THOUSAND OAKS — Officials are scrambling to put together a deal for live local television coverage of Saturday’s Southern Section Division III championship football game between Newbury Park and Hawthorne.
Thousand Oaks City Council member Alex Fiore on Tuesday won council approval for the city to spend up to $1,400 on the project. The game is expected to be shown tape-delayed on Ventura County Cablevision Channel 8 at a time to be determined. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Moorpark College.
“I would encourage most of the die-hard fans in Newbury Park to go to the game, but there are many who would enjoy watching the game on television,” Fiore said.
The city would have to pay $600 to the Southern Section for broadcasting rights, Southern Section officials said. GTE has said it would lend the city microwave or satellite equipment needed for live transmission, Fiore said.
Channel 8 is received by Ventura County Cablevision subscribers along the 101 corridor from Calabasas to Camarillo and north to Moorpark, Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru.
