WESTMINSTER — A 22-year-old transient suspected of breaking into an apartment last week and shooting the resident in the chest was arrested Wednesday morning, Police Sgt. Russell Silva said.
John Stephens was arrested without incident at 1 a.m. near Dale Street and Crescent Avenue in Buena Park by Westminster police.
The victim in the Dec. 8 attack, 29-year-old Gifford Madden, survived the shooting, which occurred in the 6200 block of Hefley Street.
Madden shot Stephens in the arm during an argument after Stephens and another man forced their way into the apartment, police said. Stephens had been treated for his wound, Silva said.
Stephens is being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion of burglary, robbery and attempted murder. His bail has been set at $250,000.
The second man remains at large, police said.
