Scott Fields, who finished the season as USC’s backup tailback behind Shawn Walters, has been switched to strong safety and will play the position against Utah in the Dec. 30 game at Anaheim Stadium, Coach John Robinson said.
Fields gained 231 yards, third-highest total among Trojan backs.
In another switch, 300-pound sophomore Stu Gage was moved from offensive tackle to the defensive line.
