- Share via
Three bilingual instructional aides have received $4,000 in scholarships and loans to attend Azusa Pacific University for a program that will train them to become teachers.
The three aides, from the Baldwin Park Unified School District, are:
* Ramona Ambriz of Walnut Elementary School;
* Ruth Carattini-Garcia of Pleasant View Elementary School;
* Norma Flores of the Adult and Continuing Education Program.
They received three of the seven special scholarships awarded by Azusa Pacific.
The program’s aim is to develop more bilingual teachers to serve the area’s large Latino enrollment.
The scholarship recipients are eligible to receive up to $3,500 more per year, depending on their academic grades.
After the three aides graduate from the program, the district plans to offer them jobs as teachers.
