‘Masters,’ ‘Music’ to Screen at UCLA

Rick Harper’s “Masters of Illusion,” a survey of the origins of special effects, and Josh Waletzky’s “Music for the Movies: Bernard Herrmann,” will be screened Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at UCLA’s Melnitz Theater.
The screenings are part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the UCLA Film and Television Archive’s 12th annual Contemporary Documentary Series.
Waletzky’s film examines the work of the late composer who created music for more than 50 films for such directors as Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Nicholas Ray and Martin Scorsese.
