PREP FIELD HOCKEY : Newport Harbor Falls in Tournament Final

La Verne Bonita captured the championship of the Orange County Invitational field hockey tournament for the second consecutive year, defeating Newport Harbor, 2-0, on Saturday at Fountain Valley High School.
Tracy Huigens scored both goals for Bonita and was named tournament MVP. Sara Raymond had five saves for the Sailors.
Newport Harbor (4-2-2) reached the finals by defeating Glendora, 1-0, in the semifinals. Mara Collaizzi scored the game-winner for the Sailors and was named to the all-tournament team, along with teammates Buffy Carpenter and Danielle Dwyer. Newport Harbor is second in the Sunset League behind Edison.
The Chargers (6-2), leaders in the Sunset League, finished third in the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Glendora. Jennifer Craig, named to the all-tournament team, scored for Edison.
Also named to the all-tournament team were Nicole Nehrig (Edison), Erica Crandall (Fountain Valley), Catherine Raspet (Fountain Valley), Michelle Carr (Fountain Valley), Sonya Deffner (Huntington Beach), Jayne Davis (Marina), Sarah Ewing (Marina) and Alicia Alvarado (Santiago).
