SUE REINER
Television production executive, Hollywood
“On Sunday morning I like to go to the Farmer’s Market in Hollywood. It’s the way they shop in Europe. They go out with a basket and buy fresh things. They close the street off. There’s street entertainment. It’s much more fun than the supermarket, and the produce is fresher. People have their own home businesses, like curing olives. Some people bring baked goods. Vendors wander through the crowd--like a peach salesman--he’ll wander through the crowd giving samples. I always run into friends. It makes L.A. a little bit more livable. Hollywood can be trashy, but on Sunday morning the community takes over the street. It’s a venue for getting people together.”

The market is on Ivar Avenue between Hollywood and Sunset boulevards. It is held every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes a crafts fair. The market is run by Hollywood Economic Revitalization Effort. It was started with redevelopment funds but now operates independently.
