GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Philman, Edison Upset Marina

Marie Philman had 30 points to help Edison to a 66-59 upset of Marina, the fifth-ranked team in Orange County, in a Sunset League girls’ basketball game Tuesday at Marina.
The loss stopped Marina’s 25-game home winning streak and also dropped the Vikings (16-6, 9-2) into a first-place tie with Ocean View.
Philman, a sophomore forward, set an Edison single-game record by making 16 free throws. She made 11 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter. Edison (14-8, 5-6) trailed, 28-25, at the half, but the Chargers increased their defensive pressure and outscored Marina 23-13 in the third quarter.
In other Sunset League games:
Ocean View 58, Rosary 33--Farrah Magee had 16 points and Jennifer Tuiolosega 11 for host Ocean View (18-4, 9-2). Magee scored eight points in the first quarter, when Ocean View outscored Rosary, 22-7.
Fountain Valley 56, Huntington Beach 55--Lisa Feng’s two free throws gave Fountain Valley a 56-52 lead with 12 seconds left. The Barons (16-6, 8-3) were led by Jen Ludwicki’s game-high 18 points. Renee Kimoto had 16 points for Huntington Beach (7-14, 3-8).
Westminster 53, Santa Ana 37--Lisa Tamamasui had 19 points and 16 rebounds and April Ramirez had 10 points for Westminster (9-13, 4-7). Karina Gonzalez had 18 points, including four three-pointers for Santa Ana (10-13, 2-9).
In the Academy League:
Liberty Christian 37, Connelly 34--Lynlee Vaccaro had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Sara Anderson added 11 points for Liberty Christian (12-8, 4-2).
St. Margaret’s 76, South Gate Southeast Lutheran 17--Masy Motazedi scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds for visiting St. Margaret’s (14-1, 6-0).
In the Century League:
Villa Park 74, Foothill 24--Michelle Miyake scored 20 points, including five three-pointers, and Maureen Skehan added 17 points and 12 rebounds for visiting Villa Park (18-3, 6-1).
Canyon 61, Orange 32--Robynn Kuhlman scored 15 points and Nelda Sweet and Stacey Fish each added 10 for host Canyon (12-8, 5-2).
El Modena 38, Santa Ana Valley 24--Jamie Shine had nine points and 12 rebounds for El Modena (9-9, 5-2).
In the Empire League:
Cypress 71, Los Alamitos 31--Julie Adams had 25 points and Susan Flaming had 10 points and 15 assists for host Cypress (21-2, 7-0), which has won 12 in a row.
Katella 61, Loara 32--Deborah Vargas had 22 points and six steals, and Cris Carrillo had 14 points and nine assists for Katella (11-6, 5-2).
El Dorado 53, Esperanza 40--Jamie Sweet scored 20 points and Jamie Nebeker added 14 for host El Dorado (15-6, 5-2).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 63, Sonora 25--Jennie Gadd scored 16 points and Dinah Shah had 10 for Troy (15-5, 7-0).
Buena Park 40, Sunny Hills 37--Carrie Arakaki scored 17 points for Buena Park (6-2, 3-4), which is assured of not finishing last in league for the first time in four years.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 69, Brethren Christian 35--Kristin Weddick scored 18 points and Lori Wright added 11 for visiting Orange Lutheran (10-9, 5-4).
Whittier Christian 52, Capistrano Valley Christian 36--Alana Kempton had 28 points and Kristi Ralston had six points and 14 rebounds for Whittier Christian (12-7, 7-3).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 65, Century 34--Erin Brown scored 16 points, eight in the first quarter, and Heather Robinson added 13 for visiting Costa Mesa (13-6, 7-0).
Estancia 43, Laguna Hills 20--Laura Czingula had nine rebounds and scored 16 points, including making eight of eight free throws, for visiting Estancia (15-4, 4-3).
Trabuco Hills 66, Laguna Beach 22--Dyanna Hatch 23 and Sarah Warnick each had 13 points for Trabuco Hills (12-10, 6-1).
