Firefighters Burn Brush on Ranch
County firefighters burned 850 acres of private grazing land in South County this week to try to prevent future brush fires, officials said.
The prescribed burn took place at Rancho Mission Viejo, a cattle ranch, between Ronald W. Caspers Regional Park and Camp Pendleton, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Firefighters targeted patches of dead, dry brush to encourage the growth of young vegetation that is edible by wild animals, said Kathleen Cha, a spokeswoman with the Orange County Fire Department.
