Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Defense Rests Case in Trial of Davidians
- Share via
Attorneys for 11 Branch Davidians charged with murdering four federal agents rested their case without calling any cult members. “There is no need to put your defendant on the witness stand unless you want to prove something,” defense lawyer Steven Rosen said outside the San Antonio courtroom. “When you are accused of a crime in this country you are under no burden of proof.” Lawyers for the Davidians claim that they were trying to defend themselves during the shootout. U.S. District Judge Walter Smith indicated that closing arguments would take place early next week. The cult members on trial could face up to life in prison if convicted.
