NHL ROUNDUP : After Four Tries, Moog Joins 300-Victory Club

Stuck on No. 299 through four losses, Dallas Star goaltender Andy Moog finally broke through Friday night--but he had to stop 45 shots to do it.

Moog became the 10th goaltender in NHL history with 300 victories as the Stars defeated the Washington Capitals, 6-2.

He is 300-144-63, and only Jacques Plante reached 300 in fewer games. Eight of the nine previous 300-winners are in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

But it took Moog a while.

“It was a monkey hanging on my back and on the team’s back,” Moog said of the four games since No. 299. “It hasn’t been all fun. This was definitely hard, but it’s a nice feeling to finally get it.”

Terry Sawchuk is the all-time leader with 435 victories, one more than Plante.

Toronto 4, St. Louis 2--Drake Berehowsky scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period on a power play as the Maple Leafs won at home and moved back into sole possession of first place in the overall NHL Western Conference standings.

Chicago 7, New York Rangers 3--Jeremy Roenick had two goals and two assists as the Blackhawks handed the league-leading Rangers their worst home-ice defeat of the season.

Buffalo 2, New York Islanders 2--Ray Ferraro’s power-play goal 9:15 into the third period lifted the Islanders into a tie at Minneapolis.

Edmonton 4, Florida 4--Bob Kudelski’s goal with 9:43 left helped the Panthers overcome a three-goal rally by the Oilers at Miami.
