Do us all a favor and leave Lorraine Ali at home the next time a “brilliant craftsman” comes to town (“Elvis Costello Can Still Pump It Up,” May 13).
Anyone who can fault a mature songwriter for being “more concerned with perfect pop lines than emotional urgency” should stick with reviewing the next wave of Nirvana wanna-bes and stay away from someone who has been there, done that and moved on.
The Elvis Costello concert I saw was a perfect balance of the old (played with renewed vigor, not dated) and new (brilliantly crafted, perfect pop songs). Oddly, it was the same concert.
