NEWPORT BEACH : Commission Rejects Youth Hostel Plan
- Share via
The Planning Commission has denied a permit to a group of Australian investors who had hoped to open a youth hostel in Newport Beach in time for the World Cup soccer tournament.
Commissioners voted 5 to 2 Thursday against the proposal, the majority saying that the 50-bed hostel needs more than the three parking spaces currently available near 430 32nd St. Some nearby residents and businesses also have complained that a $15-per-night hostel would attract vagrants and troublemakers.
