Mater Dei to Try to Pitch Way Past Lakewood

Mater Dei’s strength will be tested Friday when it plays at second-seeded Lakewood in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I baseball playoffs.

The Monarchs, South Coast League champions, have advanced with their pitching. They have given up only one run in two games. Lakewood has scored 22 runs in two games.

Division I--Fountain Valley at Simi Valley; La Crescenta Crescenta Valley at El Dorado; Mater Dei at Lakewood. Division II--Temecula Valley at Canyon. Division III--Bellflower St. John Bosco at La Quinta. Division V--Cambria Coast Union at Calvary Chapel; Whittier Christian at Big Bear. Division VI--St. Margaret’s at Downey Calvary Chapel.
