I couldn’t let Leonard Feather’s review of the Roy Hargrove Quintet’s performance at Ambassador Auditorium (“Hargrove Quintet Delivers a One-Note Performance,” May 21) go by without comment.
I was struck by his criticism that Hargrove’s performance was “too determined to please the audience at all costs.” Well, excuse me, but isn’t that the point--to please the people who pay hard-earned money to buy the tickets?
Maybe the Imperial Critic should request private concerts in the future so he won’t have to be subjected to the “audience-milking” and much enjoyed performance put on by these five exceptionally talented young musicians.
Mr. Feather, methinks thou arte full of thyself.
