Lynda Lacayo has received the city’s annual award for outstanding contribution to the arts. The city’s Recreation and Park District also announced this year’s winners in the 19th Annual Cypress Juried Art Exhibit.
Lacayo is a founding member of the Friends of Cypress Cultural Arts. She was a member of the Cypress Cultural Arts Commission from 1987 to 1993, serving as chairwoman for two years.
During her service on the commission, she represented Cypress on the North Orange County Consortium of the Arts, began the Concerts on the Green summer program, and was responsible for developing the “Art in Public Places” program, which provides exhibit space throughout the city to artists during Arts Week.
Lacayo also has served for two years as co-chairwoman of the annual “Cypress Celebrates the Arts” events. She received her outstanding contribution to the arts award during a reception earlier this month.
At the same reception, the city announced the winners in the Juried Art Exhibit competition.
In the painting category, Julian Bloom was first; Kay Ruffini, second, and Young Lee Chai, third. Winners in the newly created photography category were Steve Olsen, first; Tony Nieto, second, and Kate Barnett, third.
In the three-dimensional category, Fred Rose won first place; Bill Dunbar, second, and Alfred Kuan, third.
The City of Cypress Purchase Award was won by Patti Yunker. Patti Marker-White received a special award from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the Cypress Art League presented an award to Harold Anderson.
