Applicants Needed for Diversity Group

SAN CLEMENTE — Applicants are being sought for five openings on the city’s Human Affairs Committee, which is charged with finding ways to unite the ethnically diverse community.
There are seven members on the City Council-appointed committee, which meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
Three seats have expired and two are being vacated by resigning members. The two-year terms will begin July 1. Applications are available in the city clerk’s office and are due by June 15.
Member Alice Swanson said one of the committee’s chief goals is to ease misunderstandings and ill feelings among ethnic groups through community forums.
“Some people can get pretty polarized in their feelings about Hispanics and immigration issues,” Swanson said. “We’re trying to eliminate the feelings that separate our community.”
