CHATSWORTH — Former Cal State Northridge assistant Wayne Fluker turned down the varsity boys’ basketball position at Chatsworth High, a Chatsworth official said Friday.
The official, who wished not to be identified, said that Fluker, 34, turned down the offer for personal reasons. Fluker could not be reached for comment.
Fluker was a Northridge captain during his two seasons, from 1983-85, and was twice selected the team’s most inspirational player.
The new favorite for the job, according to a source at the school, is former Eagle Rock Coach Bill Whiting.
Whiting could be offered the position as early as Tuesday, a school official said. With several highly regarded returning players, Chatsworth is expected to rank among the best teams in the City Section 4-A Division next winter.
Sandy Greentree quit after three season as coach last month.
