Children out of school for the summer can begin swimming, wading or reading as the city pools and library launch their recreation programs over the next two weekends.
Sunday will mark the opening of the Peak Park Municipal Pool at 7225 El Dorado Drive and the Boisseranc Park Mini-Pool at 7520 Dale St.
Both pools will be open from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. and from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. every day through Labor Day.
Evening swim times are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Peak Park.
Fees for both pools are 50 cents for youngsters under 17 and $1 for adults.
Residents with children 6 years old and younger can take them to the Brenner Park Wading Pool at 7373 San Rafael Drive from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The pool opens June 28 and there is no charge.
Children as young as 8 months old can be registered for swimming lessons. The sign-up will be June 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Peak Park.
Slots for the session--the first of five--will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The lessons run from 9 a.m. to noon and from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for two weeks beginning June 27. Fees range from $15 to $28.
For indoor entertainment, the Buena Park Library District will help children discover “Western Trails and Tales” in a summer reading program that begins Monday.
Readers can win prizes by accumulating the most reading time by the end of the summer.
Wednesday Specials at the library run from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. beginning June 29, with storytellers, mimes and magicians on the schedule.
All events are free, but tickets must be picked up in the Children’s Room before the event.
For 3- to 5-year-olds, Preschool Storytimes will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. Family Storytimes run from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays for people of all ages.
These events are also free of charge.
