MARSEILLES, France — Two small-time drug dealers confessed Thursday to killing a French lawmaker who crusaded against organized crime and its ties to local politics on the Riviera.
The pair were among about 30 people rounded up Wednesday in the latest sweep by police in Toulon, near Marseilles, since Yann Piat was killed Feb. 25.
The woman’s slaying threw a spotlight on links between the mob, politics and business on the Riviera, raising the specter of the sort of corruption that has long plagued Italy.
